The outline of an epoch of development from the French Revolution to Napoleon's coronation as Emperor was presented in three volumes, focussing on the emergence of the Grande Armée, the plans to push back the French Republic by Prussia and Austria in the first two coalition wars and the role of the Saxon troops as part of the Imperial Army from 1793 to 1796. This overview had to leave out many other aspects, six of which are presented in this supplementary volume. The first is the memoirs of a French soldier, the second the attempt by French troops to advance into Hesse in 1792, the third a portrait of General Custine, the fourth an observation of the year 1794 in the area between the Meuse and the Rhine, the fifth the Russians in Switzerland in 1799 and the sixth one of the battles in 1800 between Austria and France, the one at Meßkirch on 5 May.
