Schuy, Stefan Österreichische Revolver 1840-1918

Based on the lack of specialist literature on Austrian revolver manufacturers, an attempt is made to examine the best-known Austrian manufacturers and to present previously unknown documents and productions. The very early testing of revolvers for military use in Austria began in 1848 with Josef Ganahl in Innsbruck and ended with August Rast immediately after the First World War. A wide range of 150 examples from this period are edited and shown, which came out of their workshops.

A reference work, which should be an important source of information for every interested revolver expert as well as collector of Austrian revolvers for their collecting activities. The work offers comprehensive information on this subject no other gun reference book does. The names of great Austrian revolver manufacturers are introduced and their products are shown: Auer, Michael in Vienna; Ganahl, Josef in Innsbruck; Gasser, Leopold in Vienna; Heitzenberger, J. in Wien Neustadt; Jester, Franz in Innsbruck (arms factory); Maurer, Gebrüder; Maschek, Wenzel in Vienna; OeWG in Steyr; Peterlongo, Johann in Innsbruck; Rast, August in Vienna; Scheinigg, Josef in Vienna. Comprehensive information about civilian and military models, trial attempts until a certain model was finally rejected or introduced are the focal points of this book. An important contribution is the serial numbers of the models introduced, which have been compiled over many decades and allow conclusions to be drawn about the year of manufacture and acceptance. Another contribution are the patent applications of the army revolvers used in the Imperial and Royal Army. Army with their revolver ammunition and much more. Finally, there is an overview of the development of the revolver and cartridge pouches, as well as the safety lines used in the Imperial and Royal Army.
