Development - Types - Technology. With rifles against tanks: When the British introduced a new weapon on the battlefields of the First World War in the form of their tanks in 1916, the infantry had little to oppose the "steel monsters". The German War Ministry responded with the Mauser tank rifle. This was followed by a development towards ever larger and heavier anti-tank rifles until they were replaced by recoilless anti-tank handguns.
But in the 1980s the concept underwent a renewal with the modern anti-material rifles. In this volume, weapons expert Michael Heidler describes the history of anti-tank rifles since 1918.
