The accounts compiled here by German soldiers of all branches of the armed forces who took part in the battle for Stalingrad are made available to the general public for the first time. They reflect the hardship of the fighting, but also the slowly fading hope of being liberated from the cauldron. Most of these accounts were previously unpublished or published only in remote places for a small circle.
