Around 500 Austrians completed what was probably the most special training camp of the US Army in World War II between 1942 and 1945: the "Military Intelligence Training Center" in Camp Ritchie, Maryland. At the end of their eight-week course, they knew the Wehrmacht as well as the back of their hand and, thanks to their language skills and cultural know-how, represented an important element for the United States in the fight against Hitler's Germany.

This study is the first to record the names of all Austrian "Ritchie Boys", including prominent names such as Georg Kreisler, Marcel Prawy and Eric Pleskow. In addition, the collective war biography of these resistance fighters against the Nazi regime, who have so far been little researched in the German-speaking world, is illuminated on the basis of the war experiences of selected protagonists.
