The 13th Mountain Division of the Waffen-SS "Handzar" consisted largely of 12,000 Bosnian Muslims who had volunteered for service and were trained near Mittenwald (Upper Bavaria). The division was formed on 1 March 1943 and operated on the territory of the "Independent State of Croatia" in the fight against Tito's partisans. For the first time, an officer of this unit describes its operations, but also the frequently portrayed events during the mutiny in France from his own experience. He also explains the background to the formation of the division and the role of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Amin el-Husseini.
