This book continues the documentation of the advance of the VII US Corps of the 1st US Army through Central Germany in April 1945 and follows on seamlessly from the book "Der Kampf um den Harz 1945". After a brief outline of the general military situation in Central Germany at the beginning of April 1945 and the route taken so far by the VII US Corps from the Weser to the Sangerhausen area, the book chronologically describes the advance of the units of the VII US Corps that did not take part in the fighting in the Harz Mountains from the Sangerhausen area to the Allied holding line on the Mulde River between Dessau and Eilenburg. The view begins on 14 April 1945 with the start of the attack on the city of Halle and the central German industrial region of Dessau- Bitterfeld-Wolfen, and ends with the capture of the securing positions along the Mulde and the establishment of contact with the Soviet troops. The documentation is supplemented by a brief look at the American and partly British occupation between the Harz and Mulde.
