This book deals with the advance of the Vth US Corps from northern Thuringia to the Saale in the section Schkopau - Merseburg - Leuna - Weißenfels - Naumburg, with which the last attack of the Vth US Corps to the Allied Halt Line on the Elbe and Mulde was initiated. In addition to the occupation of the Lossa poison gas camp, the main focus here is on the city of Naumburg, which had become the target of American bomber units a few days before its occupation due to the military installations present in the city and had suffered a large number of casualties and damage in the process. The documentation is supplemented by a brief account of the events on the flanks of the V. US Corps, in particular the advance of the XX. US Corps of the 3rd US Army to the Saale in the Bad Kösen area and south of Naumburg.
The book is published as a revised and supplemented new edition of the documentation "Der Vorstoß des V. US Corps zur Saale und Unstrass" published by Arps-Verlag Weißenfels in 2007. US Corps to the Saale and Unstrut and the Occupation of Naumburg in April 1945", published by Arps Verlag Weißenfels in 2007, and ties in thematically with the book "The Battle for Northern Thuringia in April 1945".
Finally, the role of Naumburg for the American troops in the Central German area Naumburg is considered as the seat of a large number of staffs and logistical hub for supplies. Ultimately, the mass of German prisoners of war from the southern Leipzig area and the Mulde region also made their way to the large POW assembly camps on the Rhine via Naumburg until the end of April 1945, before German prisoners of war were released back home from here from the end of May 45.
