Mostly American sources provide an exciting insight into the events in Central Germany in 1945
In addition to the general military situation development in Central Germany at the end of March/beginning of April 1945, the author chronologically describes the advance of the VII. US Corps of the 1st US Army after the completion of the encirclement of the Ruhr area through the northern Eichsfeld and the western Harz on Nordhausen, the liberation of the concentration camp Dora-Mittelbau, the further advance through the southern and eastern Harz and the Goldene Aue to the Saale. The account is supplemented by an outline of the fighting in the Harz Mountains up to the destruction of the Harz Cauldron, including the operations of the 9th US Army in the northern Harz, and a brief examination of the advance of the V US Corps on the southern flank of the VII US Corps.
