The history and development of the Indians of North America is shown on the basis of about 500 picture postcard illustrations and described with texts. In the "Golden Age" of the picture postcard at the beginning of the 20th century, Germany was a centre of postcard production. Over 20,000 tons of printed postcards were shipped to the United States annually, including a large number with Indian motifs.
The often rare motifs, which were not published anywhere else, quickly became sought-after collector's items and in this way have been preserved until the present day. They give us an insight into the diversity of North American Indian cultures.
