Description
A history of the North American Indians from Chief Metacomet to Sitting Bull. The book offers a richly illustrated history of Native North American warfare from the Pequot Wars (1636-1638) to the Ghost Dance War of 1891, which ended in the horrific massacre at Wounded Knee. Included are the life stories of famous Indian warriors and warrior chiefs such as Metacomet ("King Philip"), Pontiac, Tecumseh, Red Cloud, Sitting Bull and Geronimo. Also included are explanations of the culture of the North American Indian tribes, such as the consumption of tobacco, the meaning of the "peace pipe" or the totem pole, sign language or the ceremony of the Sun Dance.
