On the history of East German aviation. Personalities such as Lilienthal, von Hünefeld, Junkers and the innovative scientists who built up a functioning aviation company after the Second World War, and even developed a competitive aircraft in Dresden, are among the pioneers of East German aviation history. The testimonials of over fifty contemporary witnesses and a large number of unique and previously unpublished documents have been incorporated into the book. For the first time, the liquidation of the East German airline Interflug, which was carried out by the Treuhand between 1990 and 2007, is also presented here.
The history of German aviation is strongly marked by the East German pioneering spirit of flying, by the entrepreneurial willpower and by the efforts of thousands who devoted themselves to the dream of flying, both on the ground and in the air - but it is also marked by disappointments that were nurtured from within and without and caused many a hope to fade away.
