Feldwebel Pöllmann was fortunate to receive extensive peacetime military training and thus entered World War 1 with a small advantage. His misfortune was that he was assigned to the 8th Marching Battalion, a suicide squad within the 38th Infantry Regiment, which was supposed to contribute to the military consolidation of this regiment, which was later disbanded in disgrace.
Only a handful of 59s survived this assignment, but were not reassigned to the 59 Infantry Regiment. Pöllmann fought his way back to the parent regiment with all his might, using many tricks. Just in time for one of the most difficult battles, the storming of the Rombon. Seriously wounded, this meant the end of the war for him. A brave soldier, close to his homeland, who left his mark on many battlefields steeped in history.
