This book aims to provide an overview of the French truck Berliet GLR, its history, its manufacturer and the people who developed it, and to explain why it has become an icon of the commercial vehicle world in France and abroad, justifying its status as "truck of the century", achieved in 1994 through a vote organised by the magazine "Les Routiers".
The GLR is more than just a truck, it is a symbol. First of all, it is the symbol of a brand, because although the manufacturer has produced more than a thousand different models with the locomotive, the GLR is the most emblematic, best-known and best-selling model. The GLR is a summary of Berliet, concentrating all the qualities of the brand's trucks: Robustness, reliability, durability and economy. The GLR is also the symbol of an era, the "Trente glorieuses", the Glorious Thirty. It is also a symbol of France's industrial dynamism. It was produced a total of almost 100000 times together with the TLR tractor and exported on a large scale. Finally, the GLR symbolises a spirit of customer satisfaction, through the supply of high quality, high performance and economical equipment, but also through a seamless service.
