Iron Age Europe was populated by Celts from the 5th century BC to the turn of the millennium - from the Atlantic coast to the Bosporus, from the low mountain ranges to the Apennines. Today's Franconia was part of the core area in which the Celtic Latène culture developed. In numerous contributions, the volume accompanying the exhibition at the Knauf Museum in Iphofen provides an overview of the topic and presents the Celtic settlement history of this region as well as selected sites. Celtic religion, burial customs, the achievements of craftsmen and the coinage system are also discussed, not without taking a look at the wider, supra-regional context. Finally, reports on the reconstruction of a Celtic chariot and the bizarre fate of a coin hoard provide topical references.
