Description
With this book, this fascination with the ancient Celts can also be experienced in culinary terms. The author introduces the topic with extensive factual information on the current state of archaeological research before guiding the reader with a range of recipes from antiquity to the present. In doing so, she combines fantasy and science and presents recipes for everyday life and feasts as well as for the different seasons that can also be recreated in modern kitchens.
The changes in cooking culture due to the immigration of new cooking ingredients are also presented. In this way, it sheds light on a period of more than 2500 years, during which there were constant innovations in the kettle and on the baking stone. Today, Celtic culture is as present as it is elusive. On the one hand, there is the examination of archaeological discoveries and still-living languages of Celtic origin; on the other hand, there is the enthusiasm for stories about King Arthur and Lancelot or pop-cultural references to Celticism in Asterix and Obelix. However Celticism is defined, it holds a great fascination.
