In issue 1/2026 of the series Bayerische Archäologie (Bavarian Archaeology), the authors look at battlefields from various eras where archaeological finds such as weapons, equipment and human remains have been discovered. These provide a direct insight into the horrors of war. Topics covered include: battles for castles during the Urnfield period; the Roman Alpine campaign in 15 BC; the siege of Landau an der Isar in the War of the Landshut Succession; the Battle of Alte Veste near Nuremberg in 1632; the War of the Austrian Succession in 1742 in the district of Dingolfing-Landau; and Napoleon's battle at Eggmühl in 1809.
