Description
Few ancient peoples are as clichéd - then and now - as the Celts. But who are "the" Celts anyway? The accompanying volume to the major theme year 2022 "Celts in the Land of Hessen" goes on an archaeological search for traces of their rich cultural heritage across Hessen and opens up new perspectives.
Thousands of archaeological monuments and finds that can be assigned to the Iron Age (800-15 BC) and in particular to the Celtic culture are documented in Hessen. They form a veritable treasure trove for science. From 10 March 2022, the first state-wide Archaeology Year will invite visitors to discover Iron Age Hessen with numerous events. Special exhibitions at a total of eight museum locations will address modern-sounding buzzwords such as innovations, resource consumption or urbanisation as well as outstanding achievements of Celtic craftsmanship. The lively accompanying volume, penned by 39 authors from the fields of heritage conservation, museums and research, is aimed at all those interested in archaeology and offers an excellent overview of the current state of knowledge. Some find complexes are presented to the general public for the first time in words and pictures. Entertaining, richly illustrated research overview of the Celtic period in Hesse. The volume provides a comprehensive insight into the changes in people's lives from 800 B.C. onwards due to the new material iron.
