Six days in October 1813 led to the end of Napoleonic domination in Europe. The fascination of what was then called the Battle of the Nations lay not only in the mass of armies marching up. It was the hundreds of thousands with an unprecedented diversity of their countries of origin. Memories paint the picture of the warlike event. They were left by allies of Napoleon and tell of the often last engagements at the side of the French for their emperor.
