The heavy armoured division 503 at the focal points of the front in the East and West. This is a comprehensive and richly illustrated history of the schwere Panzerabteilung 503, which was formed on 4 May 1942 as the first of a total of ten independent "Tiger" divisions at Neuruppin, Putlos, Fallingbostel and Döllersheim. In its 36-month existence, Abteilung 503 had spent 25 months in front-line service. By the time of its surrender on 9 and 10 May 1945, when it surrendered to the troops of the 3rd US Army, the Abteilung had destroyed about 2000 enemy tanks.
