A fascinating and objective book about the clash of two completely different cultures. The author explains both the European contexts that led the Spanish crown to adventure into Mexico and the emergence of the Aztec high culture from a primitive nomadic people who absorbed and refined the cultures of other Central American civilisations. An impressive description of Indian architecture and detailed explanations of Spanish and Indian armour and weaponry as well as a character study of the main protagonists complete this successful work by historian Miguel Gomez. The author does not conceal the atrocities committed by both peoples.
