Description
The participants in the First Crusade of 1096-1099 encountered foreign peoples, cultures, religions and powers; much was unknown to them, mysterious and incomprehensible. But how did they cope with the new impressions? The first chroniclers, some of whom had taken part in the crusade themselves, tell us how the crusaders saw the strangers, the "others", and how they reacted to them. This creates a vivid moral picture of this period of European history.
