Description
Third volume of a five-part series on the military events of the Thirty Years' War 1618-1648. Description of the war events during the Swedish phase of the Thirty Years' War, which lasted from 1630-1635, and represents something like the climax of the war, since here, with the imperial Generalissimo Wallenstein and the Protestant Swedish King Gustav II Adolf, two of the most important personalities of the war were involved. Adolf, two of the most important personalities of this European conflict, met each other directly.
Description of all important military events: Landing of the Swedes on Usedom (4 July 1630), march of the Swedish army southwards, conquest and destruction of Magdeburg by Tilly's troops (25 May 1631), victory of Gustav II Adolf over Tilly at Breitenfeld (17 September 1631), second Swedish victory over Tilly at Rain am Lech (14. May 1632), Wallenstein's appointment as imperial commander-in-chief (May 1632), the battle of Lützen and the death of the Swedish king (16 November 1632), Wallenstein's assassination in February 1634 and the Peace of Prague in 1635. Further on, the defeat of the Danes by Tilly at Lutter am Barenberge (27 August 1626) and Wallenstein's campaign in northern Germany and Jutland until the Peace of Lübeck in 1629. In addition to the military, political and religious aspects of the Thirty Years' War, the volume also describes the appearance of the warriors of the time, the organisation of the armies, their warfare and the everyday life of the mercenaries, army commanders and troops.
