Description
The first volume of a five-part series on the military events of the Thirty Years' War 1618-1648. This volume deals with the background to the conflict, which swept practically all of Europe into its vortex, as well as the first phase of the war, when military events were concentrated first in Bohemia and later in the Electoral Palatinate as a result of the Defenestration of Prague. A main focus is, of course, the first major battle of the Thirty Years' War, namely the Battle of the White Mountain.
In addition to the military, political and religious aspects of the Thirty Years' War, the volume also describes the appearance of the warriors of the time, the organisation of the armies, their warfare as well as the everyday life of the mercenaries, army commanders and troops.
