Description
When the word caterpillar vehicle comes up in conversation between lovers of old cars, the association immediately leads to two names that have become legends: Citroen and Kégresse. Kégresse is famous for the invention, development and series production of a flexible caterpillar drive that replaced the rear wheels of commercial vehicles. This gave rise to the first "all-terrain" crawlers, lightweight half-track vehicles that could drive both on the road and on different types of ground.
The main customer for this new family of vehicles was, of course, the French army. For the first time, all the unarmoured Citroen-Kégresse vehicles used under the tricolour from the 1920s to 1940 are discussed in chronological order, taking into account the technical development of the materials and their various military uses: Liaison wagons, ambulances, light artillery and airfield tractors, dragoon transport vehicles, medium tow tractors, etc. Each model is treated, with first place given to illustrations.
