With its pointed nose and inconspicuous silhouette, the VBL Panhard is easily recognisable and is the smallest combat vehicle in the French army. Weighing 4 tonnes and lightly armed, the VBL does not appear particularly impressive at first glance. Nevertheless, its arrival on the battlefield is never insignificant. Whether as part of a tank unit or deployed on reconnaissance missions, the VBL's task is to direct fire (from more powerful tanks) or lightning strikes (from artillery and air force). With thirty years of foreign deployments, the VBL has proven itself to be an indispensable part of manoeuvres. Its tactical capabilities have also attracted the interest of many foreign armies, resulting in more than 700 VBLs being exported.
