Delitte, Jean-Yves/Delitte, Douchka (Illustr.) Die grossen Seeschlachten. Band 10: Die Bismarck 1941

This publication depicts the events surrounding the first and at the same time last enemy voyage of the German battleship "Bismarck" in May 1941 (Unternehmen "Rheinübung") in the form of a 48-page comic strip with detailed illustrations by Jean-Yves Delittle and Douchka Delitte and a story by Jean-Yves Delittle. The last eight pages are a historical dossier on the battle of the "Bismarck" against the British home fleet, in which the most important facts surrounding the famous naval operation can be found.

With the end of the First World War, the great powers realised that the unbridled arms race had to be regulated in order to avoid even more devastating consequences in the event of a new conflict. Regulation seemed all the more relevant as plans for new, ever larger and more powerful weapons of war were already lying in the drawers of many war ministries, while the smoke on the battlefields had not even cleared. As a result, arms control conferences were convened, promises were made to each other and treaties were signed. Unfortunately, treaties are there to be undermined. When the National Socialists came to power in Germany, all agreements finally became moot, as the German Reich flouted all conventions with impunity. A Germany that exploited the weaknesses of French and English policy to secretly push the construction of new weapons systems, such as the mighty battleship "Bismarck", which during the war had the mission of sinking all those Allied naval forces that would be so careless as to venture out to sea.
