Volume 8 of the "Warships" series. The HNLMS "Kortenaer" was in action during the Battle of the Java Sea on 27 February 1942, where she was torpedoed by the Japanese cruiser "Haguro". An eyewitness recorded that the "Kortenaer" was hit by a torpedo about 700 metres away on the starboard side, exploded, turned over and sank immediately, leaving only the bow and stern visible a few feet above the water surface.
