The Intrepid is one of a two-ship class of assault ships commissioned in 1967. It had a large docking bay at the stern that could accommodate up to four medium landing craft, while four light landing craft for 30 men could be loaded on davits on each side of the superstructure. Up to six helicopters could be deployed on the large flight deck aft. Both ships were deployed as part of the Falklands Task Force in 1982.
