Description
Jim Bridger was already a legend in his own lifetime: As a teenager, he joined William Ashley's first great expedition to the Upper Missouri Valley to hunt beaver. As a trapper, he braved harsh winters and wild grizzlies, encountered Native American tribes and explored the most remote regions of the West. His survival instincts and unerring sense of direction brought him to the attention of the pioneers and even the cavalry, who rewarded him for his services as a wilderness guide. Bridger became part of the myth of the "Mountain Men", those solitary men who lived in harmony with a land that was disappearing more and more under the wheel ruts of the wagons they themselves drove...
Under the direction of historian Farid Ameur, "The True Story of the Wild West" traces the careers of the most charismatic figures of the time. The scenarists and illustrators combine their respect for the cherished conventions of the genre with an unconditional commitment to historical veracity. In this way, both the light and the dark sides of the Wild West are presented without completely dissolving the myth. Each album in the series is self-contained and includes a historical appendix.
