In this publication, author Siegfried Jahn describes the dramatic history of the "runaways" - the Seminoles. They fled from the US expansionist policy to the then Spanish peninsula of Florida, where they mixed with the remnants of the original population and escaped black slaves. But they found no peace.
After the extorted "cession" of Florida by the Spanish to the USA, the Seminoles fought three wars against their expulsion to Oklahoma. The second war in particular, under their charismatic leaders Osceola and Wild Cat, cost the Americans 1500 dead soldiers, vast sums of dollars and the reputations of seven generals. In the end, a few small groups of Seminoles remained in the south of the peninsula. The US army gave up the fight and the surviving Seminoles never signed a peace treaty with the United States. To this day, their descendants in the south of Florida live from agriculture and cattle breeding, but above all from tourism - and with their casinos from the gambling addiction of the white man. They are and will forever remain the "unconquered".
