The colonial infantry units of the Empire are undoubtedly the most extensive area of research
in the field of uniform studies of Italian troops in Africa.
This is due to the considerable number of rules, regulations and provisions - sometimes of a general nature, but
of a general nature, but in many cases concerning individual units - which were issued by the various
governments in East Africa between 1935 and 1941, the period to which this work is limited (the preceding periods were already the subject of a special publication in 2011,
which deals with Eritrea and Somalia from the beginnings until 1934). However, this is also due to the large number of units involved, including infantry battalions,
coastal battalions, autonomous companies, training units and smaller units of various kinds,
which have not yet been fully recorded.
The scope of the subject therefore requires this study to be divided into several parts, of which the present volume is the first. This first volume deals with the general characteristics of the
