Without claiming to be exhaustive, this work provides an overview of the uniforms that characterised the Zaptiè natives of the East African territories during their 58 years of service alongside the Carabinieri. The corps was formed in Eritrea in the penultimate decade of the 19th century to flank the units of the Royal Carabinieri and was involved in numerous campaigns.

Units with Somali personnel were also formed which, together with the Eritrean units, reached a strength of 5000 men and took part in the Italian-Ethiopian campaign of 1936-37. During the Second World War, the corps operated with five mobilised groups, which included numerous local elements.
