In early November 1944, the 28th US Infantry Division attacks the village of Schmidt, located in the Hürtgen Forest, with three regiments. What follows is one of the bloodiest battles on the Western Front. In "Bruderkampf im Hürtgenwald", the successful German author and Bundeswehr veteran Stefan Köhler depicts the battles for Schmidt from both German and American perspectives and shows how close friendship and enmity lie in the madness of drumfire.
He throws the reader right into the middle of the bloody struggle for a few ruins, while tank tracks grind and the wounded roar.
