The life of the German officer Wilhelm Ritgen. Ritgen grew up in Münster, was thus a subject in the Grand Duchy of Berg for a few years, served in Spain for Napoleon I as a guardsman and finally came to East Prussia via Leipzig, where he took part in the famous battle in October 1813. His story is not only of interest to those interested in the Napoleonic period, but vividly describes the circumstances of life in the mid-19th century.
