The UAZ-469 was developed at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, with the first vehicles rolling off the assembly line on 15 December 1972. The UAZ-469 had an open five-seat body that could seat five people (including the driver), but if needed, two more people could sit in the cargo area on folding seats. In their place, 600 kg of equipment and cargo could be loaded, plus the UAZ-469 could tow an 850 kg trailer. The passengers were protected from bad weather by a tarpaulin tent, the arches of which were removable, and the windscreen could be folded onto the bonnet. In this case, the height of the vehicle was significantly reduced, which facilitated transport in a helicopter. In August 1974, three absolutely standard UAZ-469Bs climbed to an altitude of 4200 m in only 38 minutes during a test run in the Elbrus region. Decals of the Soviet, Vietnamese and Polish armies as well as a civilian version.
