Heinrich Hoffmann (1885-1957) is one of the most important figures in the history of the Third Reich. Since their first encounter in the beer gardens of Munich after the First World War, he and Hitler had formed a personal friendship and a professional alliance that proved to be extremely advantageous for both men. The first secured the services of an experienced, highly imaginative and talented photographer, while the second gradually acquired a lucrative monopoly on photos of the Nazi leader. His pictures over two million, according to his own account were sold all over the world and used for newspapers, magazines, propaganda posters, postcards and even postage stamps. Hoffmann was thus a direct witness to important moments in the history of National Socialism. His actual proximity to the Führer he introduced him to Eva Braun in 1932 and his presence at important events he was the first to warmly congratulate the new Chancellor in 1933 and was among the delegates sent to Moscow in 1939 to capture the signing of the German-Soviet pact for posterity make his accounts an important source for historians and laymen alike.
