Volume 43 of the Wingleader Photo Archive series is a completely revised reprint of the now out-of-print Wingleader Photo Archive No. 3, featuring new photos and colour profiles. Due to the sheer volume of new material, there are now two parts (Wingleader Photo Archive 42 and 43). This special no longer presents the images in strict chronological order, but according to the serial numbers of the aircraft shown. Sorting by serial number provides a real understanding of the development of modifications to the aircraft and when they first appeared. It also provides a clear picture of how, for example, armoured windshields were introduced and then even retrofitted to very old airframes. The first part covers the early Hurricanes from the L series to the first P series. This roughly corresponds to the period from 1937 to the Battle of France. The second part covers the remaining P series up to the Z series, covering the period from the end of the Battle of Britain in 1940 to 1941. The authors have chosen to focus both books exclusively on aircraft based in the UK, as there are plans to cover Hurricane operations overseas in a future book.
