Volume 42 of the Wingleader Photo Archive series is a completely revised reprint of the now out-of-print Wingleader Photo Archive No. 3, featuring new photos and colour profiles. This special edition no longer presents the images in strict chronological order, but according to the serial numbers of the aircraft shown. Sorting by serial number provides a real understanding of the development of modifications to the aircraft and when they first appeared. It also gives a clear picture of how, for example, armoured windshields were introduced and then even retrofitted to very old airframes. The first part covers the early Hurricanes from the L series to the first P series. This roughly corresponds to the period from 1937 to the Battle of France. The second part covers the remaining P series up to the Z series. The authors have decided to focus both books exclusively on aircraft based in the UK, as they plan to cover Hurricane operations overseas in a future book.
