The Bristol Beaufort is one of those aircraft that people think saw only limited service during the Second World War, but which in fact was in use from almost the beginning to the end. Although it was always underpowered and its engines were so unreliable in the early days that the type was briefly taken out of service, the Beaufort and its crews nevertheless fought bravely around the globe, from northern Norway to the South Pacific. In this book, the authors have delved deep into their extensive photo collection and attempted to decipher the curious bumps and lumps that appear on some Beauforts but not others. As the aircraft was in service for five years, it is important to identify the date of the photo to give the reader an indication of why certain modifications were made or not.
