Volume 45 of the Wingleader Photo Archive series. For a long time, the problem was that there were not enough photos to produce a comprehensive work on the Boulton Paul Defiant. Apart from a few well-known press events with the 264th Squadron, the Defiant was rarely photographed, especially when compared to other RAF front-line aircraft. It was only this year, when discussing possible topics with regular author Andy Thomas, that it was realised that there were finally enough photos to do justice to the Defiant squadrons. The result is a very interesting and important study of the Defiant's service during the Second World War. Things that were previously unknown were discovered, and many common myths about this classic two-seater fighter were identified and corrected. The authors have arranged the photos in rough chronological order, which also corresponds to the aircraft's intended use: from day fighter to night fighter to ASR and ECM tasks, before ending its career as a target towing aircraft for the rest of the war.
