Of 39,000 German submariners, 30,000, or three quarters, stayed ahead of the enemy. Max Hufnagl from Munich, uncle of the author Peter Schuster, belonged to the last quarter that survived the brutal fight on and under water during the Second World War. Thanks to his records and the documents he meticulously collected, it was possible to produce this elaborately designed and high-quality book. All the boats on which Max Hufnagl served lie at the bottom of the sea: U-644, U-733, U-123, U-745... It is thanks to pure coincidence that he survived in each case. For example, he was one of only three survivors of U-745 to survive the war. With this book the author Peter Schuster does not only want to offer an insight into the submarine war, but also to contribute to counteract some inaccurate representations.
