The memoirs of the former Obersturmführer of the 1st SS Panzer Division "Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler" and late returnee Walther Groß provide a detailed insight into his war and captivity years. The later Brigadier General of the Austrian Armed Forces takes the reader with his biography to the military hotspots of the Second World War, including the battle for Kharkov in 1943, deployment in the Reich's air defence in the vicinity of Berlin in 1944 and finally the final battle in 1945 around and in Vienna. His accounts of his experiences as a Russian prisoner of war are also detailed.
