Tiquet, Pierre Sturmartillerie de la Waffen-SS. Band 1: Leibstandarte et Das Reich

The assault guns were the first armoured vehicles made available to the divisions of the Waffen-SS at the beginning of their deployment on the battlefields of World War 2. This first volume presents the "Schönberger" Division of the 1st SS Division "Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler". Formed in 1941, it became the SS assault gun division "LSSAH", whose ranks included a young tank soldier named Michael Wittmann.

The work looks at all the important stations and battles of this formation. The SS assault gun battery "Reich" was also formed in 1941. In action since the beginning of the "Barbarossa" enterprise, it formed the nucleus for the assault gun units of the 2nd SS Division "Das Reich", whose undertakings on the Eastern and Western Fronts are also described here. The book traces the development and combat operations of the assault gun formations of the first two SS divisions. Included are the histories of the individual assault gun formations, contemporary operational reports and a large number of photos, a large number of which are probably still unpublished. The subsequent volumes of this mini-series present the careers, missions, men and vehicles of the other assault gun units of the Waffen-SS divisions.
