During the parachute missions in 1940 in Belgium, Holland, as well as in 1941 on Crete, the still young German paratroopers attracted worldwide attention. What is hardly known, however, is that the deployment of parachute troops in parachute operations was planned as early as 1939, when Poland was invaded and the Second World War began. For many reasons, this did not take place. In this book, the history of the German paratroopers in the Polish campaign is presented vividly and comprehensively for the first time on the basis of war diaries and with the help of more than 160 photos, maps and illustrations of contemporary documents. A large part of these pictures is previously unpublished material from various private collections worldwide. In addition to photographs from the operational areas, the numerous studio portraits with rare effects and awards are of particular interest in terms of uniform history.
