Jakobsen, Knut U 15. Das erste Opfer

The book contains a total of six accounts of the U-boat war 1914-1918, focusing on the German submarine U 15. U 15 was the first submarine in history to be sunk by an act of war. The war was only four days old, on 8 August 1914, when fate struck. There were no survivors and the exact events were only clarified when the Sea War Museum Jutland found the wreck of the submarine in 1921 in the northern part of the North Sea.

You can read all this in the book and for the first time also see a picture of the submarine commander Richard Pohle. The author has managed to find an 86-year-old nephew in Sweden. The book also contains the unique account of the last voyage of the Danish steamship "India" in 1918. The ship was sunk in the Atlantic by a German submarine and the 38 sailors on board were left to fend for themselves. In dinghy number 2, nine men survived because the 2nd officer, Hans-Christian Tversted, had experience in handling the small boat. In addition to the other reports, the story of the steamship "Frode" must be mentioned in particular. Before the Danish ship was sunk by a German submarine west of Ireland, one of the "Danish"" seamen identified himself as a German and was arrested. sailors identified himself as German and was welcomed with open arms on the submarine. There is also the story of Ernst August Krüger, who was one of the many victims of the Skagerrak battle, as well as the story of a fishing captain from Esbjerg and his encounter with a German airman, and finally the story of the Danish ship's cook who was left on board when his ship was sunk by a U-boat and subsequently rescued by the German U-boat.
