The passage of American troops across the White Elster in the Zeitz area, the deployment of Napola students from Naumburg and Schulpforta, the battle for the flak positions and the occupation of Zeitz. The XXth US Corps of the 3rd US Army. In doing so, the author closely follows previous books with regard to the integration of Zeitz into the Central German flak belt to protect the fuel industry and the city's location on the right flank of the attack strip of the V. US Corps.
For this reason, the city of Zeitz was located exactly on the dividing line between the 1st US Army and the 3rd US Army on 12 April 1945, the day the first American troops reached the western edges of the city. And Zeitz is situated on the river Weiße Elster, the last major water obstacle before the Allied holding line at the Zwickauer Mulde. Since geographic location has always been an essential factor in military operations, Zeitz became decisive for the course of a large number of troop movements in the days that followed, since most of the bridges over the river had been destroyed or damaged. As a result, the Allied armoured spearheads were forced to abandon their planned routes of advance. In addition to the detailed account of troop movements and fighting in the Zeitz area, the book deals in detail with the deployment of Napola students from Naumburg and Schulpforte in the fighting around Zeitz and the senseless deaths of the crews of the flak positions.
