At the end of the Second World War, the Panhard company successfully responded to an ambitious Army programme for the armoured reconnaissance vehicle, or EBR for short. In doing so, it literally took the acronym EBR and offered the armoured cavalry a mount that was both original and innovative. In post-war France, the almost avant-garde nature of this combat vehicle is all the more remarkable given that it is based on studies begun in 1938 and interrupted by the German invasion. Ahead of its time, its entry into service was not without its difficulties, but its characteristics, out of the ordinary in many areas, enabled it to overcome them to become, until the early 1980s, the benchmark vehicle for our reconnaissance units.
Until then, the EBR had never been the subject of such a comprehensive study, both technically and operationally. This book, the fruit of the author's meticulous work and richly illustrated with archive photos, brings this exceptional machine out of the shadows.
