A word like thunder: Stalingrad. The Battle of the Volga symbolises the doggedness of the warring parties like no other. Hundreds of thousands died. One of them was Rudolf Tisza. Originally from the small town of Weitershain in Hesse, he was sent to Russia as a radio operator in the 29th Infantry Division (mot.). He actually wanted to take over his parents' farm, but his life ended in Stalingrad at the age of 20.
Only one photo and his field post have survived - along with the certificates of his decorations (including the EK II, which he received as a radio operator in the artillery). There he describes his journey from training through the first battles to his fateful day: 31 December 1942, the day he was declared missing in action. On this day, he wrote his last letter from the cauldron. Hunger, worries about home, the desire for peace. All of this can be found in the lines sent home. A document of contemporary history. The voice from the trenches and from the front line. Another piece of the puzzle in this battle of battles: Stalingrad!
