This book describes how a young German citizen of military age experienced the Second World War. It is divided into three parts: The first part describes the time from the school desk onwards: labour service with the Reich Labour Service; deployment in Poland and Russia, and above all the military period, the deployment with the Afrika Korps. The second part describes his time as a prisoner in various American prisoner-of-war camps in the USA. Finally, the third part is dedicated to the rather erratic return home after the end of the war: handover to the French, a French camp, working for a French farmer. Then escape to Spain - Germany was too far away. Finally, transfer to Germany and release from the internment camp.
